MISSIONAL LIVING
The Effective Church lives on mission. It doesn’t just give but it also goes. It doesn’t keep the truth within its four walls. It regularly loves others not expecting a return. The primary marketing strategy is not billboards but being the church by serving to meet physical and spiritual needs. At UBC, we consider it the top priority to answer the call of Jesus to be the light and the city on a hill in our community.
CELEBRATE DIVERSITY
The Effective Church seeks out, embraces and celebrates diversity as it reflects God’s forever kingdom here on earth. We realize that one day all nations, from all backgrounds and from all over the earth will come together to worship Jesus, so we’re going to start now. Uniformity is not the goal, but unification is. At UBC, we celebrate diversity centered on the cross.
FAMILY
The Effective Church believes in the family and that all generations are important. From babies to senior adults, all are major contributors to God’s Kingdom through His church. A strong church is filled with strong families. At UBC, we are committed to spiritually invest in every generation as all programming will be purposeful toward fulfilling this core value.

HOW WE ACCOMPLISH GOD’S MISSION FOR UBC
GOSPEL
The word “Gospel” means “good news!” Every worship experience will be centered on the Gospel. Everything begins and ends with Jesus. Our prayer is that the focus will be on Him. He is the attraction and the motivator and His Word is our foundation. Our hope is that lives are changed by every worship experience because of the interaction with Jesus that occurs.
You can expect a family atmosphere that is exciting and casual. Each worship service will consist of a time of traditional/blended music, a relevant and practical sermon and a time for private/public response.
We eagerly anticipate being encouraged and challenged each week. We encourage authenticity as we connect with God and each other. We are not performance driven on or off the stage. We will regularly encourage those in the worship service to also attend a small group so that more spiritual growth will take place. Opportunities to serve the church and the community will also be communicated in our worship service environment.
GROWTH
Have you ever asked yourself the following questions?
- Who can help my family when our car breaks down or I’m sick and had to go to the hospital?
- Who can help me be a more effective follower of Jesus and guide me into making wise spiritual decisions?
- How can I immediately plug in and help others?
- How can I prevent from getting lost in the church crowd?
All of us have asked ourselves at least one of these questions! This is why UBC Small Group Bible Studies are vitally important. Teaching the Bible in a small group setting accomplishes the following:
- Studying the Bible in a smaller setting provides for interactive discussions to take place which will encourage understanding and application.
- A small group who meets regularly becomes like a family as they care for each other, help each other, and encourage each other as they pursue Christ.
- A small group is one of the best ways to create new relationships and build stronger relationships with those who are on a similar journey as you.
- A small group can have a major impact on a local community by finding ways to show the love of Jesus by serving them.
GO
Just like we believe that it is essential that we share the Gospel and experience spiritual Growth, we also believe that it is vital to Go serve the church and the community. We believe that when we share the Gospel, experience spiritual Growth and Go serve on a regular basis, then we are honoring to God and following His plan for true discipleship that makes a difference.
Jesus loved to serve others and meet their needs in a practical way. He did this in order to validate Himself as the Son of God as well as to build a bridge so He could communicate His message clearly and effectively. We desire to do the same thing.
We live in a culture that seems to have lost its trust for the church. One very effective way to earn back our trust is to serve the community. By serving them first and meeting needs, we will be able to show God’s love in a practical way in order to bridge the Gospel.
CORE BELIEFS
A. GOD
God is the creator and ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God.
Genesis 1:1, 26, 27
Genesis 3:22
Psalm 90:2
Matthew 28:19
B. JESUS CHRIST
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is coequal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. The incarnation of Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed and did the will of God taking upon Himself the demands and necessities of human nature and identifying Himself completely with mankind yet without sin. He died on the cross for our sins, and He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended into heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of kings and Lord of lords.
Matthew 1:22, 23
Isaiah 9:6
John 1:1-5, 14
Romans 1:3, 4
C. THE HOLY SPIRIT
THE HOLY SPIRIT – the Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son. He was sent to this world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ and to indwell the hearts of every person who invites Jesus Christ into their life.
His primary purpose is to recreate the life of Jesus Christ in the hearts of Christians. He has been sent to empower us to live the Christian life and give us power for service that we can accomplish the will of God. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved in order to accomplish this purpose.
As Christians, we need to seek to live under His daily guidance.
2 Corinthians. 3:17
John 16:7-13
John 14:16,17
Ephesians 5:18
Galatians 5:25
D. THE BIBLE
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It is in itself, totally in every word, inspired of God. From Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, it is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is without error and is perfect in every area which it addresses including history, science, mathematics, and His divine instruction to man. Written by human authors under the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit, it is the supreme source of truth to man and is to be our guidebook to daily living. It is the final authority of life for the Christian.
2 Timothy 3:16 2
Peter 1:20, 21
2 Timothy 1:13
1 Peter 1:25
E. MAN
Man was created by the special act of God in His own image and is the crowning work of His creation. In the beginning, man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator by the freedom of choice. As free choice, man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Through the temptation of Satan, man disobeyed the command of God and fell from his original innocence. This attitude, which the Bible calls sin, separates people from God and causes many problems in life.
Genesis 1:27
Psalm 8:3-6
Romans 3:23
Isaiah 59:1, 2
F. SALVATION
Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it. Salvation by God’s grace without works of our own is necessary because of the sinfulness of man. Only by trusting Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty.
When we turn from the self-ruled life as we repent of our sins and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith and therefore lasts for all of eternity.
Romans 6:23
Ephesians 2:8, 9
John 14:6
John 10:29, 30
2 Timothy 1:12
G. BAPTISM
Christian baptism is the immersion of the believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as an act of obedience to Jesus Christ (see study on Baptism).
Colossians 2:12
H. PEOPLE
People were created to exist eternally. Each person will either exist eternally separated from God by sin in the place the Bible calls hell or eternally with God through forgiveness in salvation in a place the Bible refers to as heaven. Both heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence as the Bible teaches.
John 3:16
John 2:25
Romans 6:23
Revelation 20:15
I. EVANGELISM
EVANGELISM—It is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ of every church to endeavor to make disciples for all nations. The new birth of man’s spirit by God’s Holy Spirit means the birth of love for others. The evangelism and missionary efforts on the part of all rest upon the spiritual necessity of sharing the good news of the gospel with others. The people of the church need to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by both a personal and a corporate effort.
Matthew 9:37, 38
Matthew 10:5-15
Matthew 28:18-20
Acts 1:8
HOW DO I BEGIN A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD?
This is the biggest decision of your life and we desire to help you in your decision making process. Read the following Bible verses, contact us, and we will help you understand what the Bible says about beginning a relationship with God.
Romans 3:23:
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 5:8:
But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 6:23:
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 10:9-13:
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord, and with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in Him will never will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile- the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
The Effective Church Goes To The Community And Doesn't Wait For The Community To Come To Them, Thereby Becoming Relationally Relevant And The City On A Hill That God Intended.
MORE OF WHAT WE VALUE
KINGDOM APPROACH TO MINISTRY
The Effective Church doesn’t follow the secular ways of competing with other churches, rather it partners with them for the cause of Christ, thus satisfying the prayer that Jesus Himself prayed 2,000 years ago…”That they may be ONE.” At UBC, we are actively connecting with other churches to wave the banner of Jesus in our community.
MULTIPLICATION
The Effective Church considers spiritual growth that is both deep and wide as a possibility. It believes in multiplying itself into other congregations and small group Bible studies so that as it gets bigger, it stays small. At UBC, we will continue to explore creative ministry environments outside of our four walls that demonstrate potential for multiplication and collaboration.
DEVELOP LEADERS WHO WILL DEVELOP LEADERS
This effective church will produce leaders who will be able to carry out the vision as well as disciple others. At UBC, the pastor, staff, deacons and leadership team are the servant leaders of the church. They are to lead by serving and by example and are to equip the members for the work of the ministry. The goal of the church is for every member to have a ministry within the church and a mission to the community, nation and/ world.

UBC is currently building their staff. Pastor Wilder currently has a great group of leaders standing in the gap who are leading in all areas of the church.
UBC was started as a mission by the Southern Baptist Association in the late 1950’s in Palm Lake Estates. The congregation began gathering at a God-fearing and honoring woman named Goldie’s house and then moved to Bonneville Elementary School. During this time, a portable was set on the property as the current sanctuary was built around it. The portable was then disassembled and removed. UBC was officially chartered on June 6th, 1959! The fellowship hall and kitchen were added later. In 1990, the pastorium was built. For decades, UBC has been blessed to have the hand of God on it. It has been filled with great people and led by giant hearted pastors.
Pastor Nathan Wilder and his family arrived to fill the pulpit for UBC in August of 2016. Filling the pulpit turned into standing in the gap as Interim Pastor. God then opened the door for Nathan to serve as Lead Pastor beginning in January of 2017. Visit NateWilder.com and his Facebook page for the latest in his life.
